About sparrows
North America hosts more than thirty native sparrow species, plus the introduced House Sparrow. They look similar at a glance, but each species has its own song, habitat preference, and field marks. Learning to tell sparrows apart is a birder rite of passage. The Song Sparrow is one of the most widespread, the White-throated Sparrow has one of the most distinctive songs ("Old Sam Peabody Peabody Peabody"), and the Fox Sparrow is one of the largest.
