Watch Birds

Feel Smarter. Be Happier.

Order of results may vary.

If you’re an unapologetic bird nerd (or are shopping for one!) you’ve found your space!

Why I'm Here

Birds keep the world humming, literally. They pollinate plants, disperse seeds, and control pests. But they also soundtrack our mornings, spark our curiosity, and remind us we’re part of something wilder than our inboxes.

The simple sound of birdsong has been proven to boost mental health. A five-minute scan with binoculars can ground you faster than any meditation app. Birds are good for the planet and good for us, and we owe it to them to return the favor.

That’s why I started Better With Birds: to help people fold birding into daily life while fueling conservation efforts that keep skies full and habitats thriving.

What I Do

I make it easy (and fun) to live your bird nerd truth:

→ ARTICLES: Tips, resources, and gear reviews that help you get more out of birding, whether you’re coaxing chickadees to your yard or debating binocular specs.

→ SHOP: Original bird art on apparel, mugs, stickers, and home goods, so you can wear what you love while funding what you love.

And here’s the kicker: 20% of profits go directly to bird conservation and inclusive birding initiatives. Every cart checked out is another step toward safer skies and stronger habitats.

FAQs

Do you really donate 20% of profits?

Actually, more.

Most businesses donate “profits,” which means they sell you something, pay all their bills and overhead, and then donate a slice of what’s left. If they make $1 and spend $0.90 on overhead, there’s only $0.10 left, and that’s where their 3% or 5% or whatever % donation comes from.

I do it differently. When you spend $1 here:

  • Step 1: I cover the hard cost of making and shipping your item (say $0.50).
  • Step 2: Before I touch things like software, marketing, hosting fees, or even paying myself, I set aside 20% of the remaining chunk (in this example, a $0.50 chunk) for bird conservation and inclusive birding.
  • Step 3: Only after that do I use the leftovers to cover overhead.

Technically, that’s not “profits” in the traditional sense, but calling it that keeps things understandable.

What matters is this: conservation gets the first cut, not the crumbs.

Your purchase fuels impact first, which means a whole lot more money goes to the birds.

Why not 100% of profits to conservation?

Because I’m a human running a business, not a magical starling pulling cash out of the sky. Keeping a portion of profits covers costs, keeps the lights on, and lets me keep making birdy things you’ll love. Without that, there’d be no shop, and no donations.

Are you a nonprofit?

Nope. Better With Birds is a for-profit small business with a baked-in commitment to conservation. That means I can stay nimble, creative, and sustainable while consistently sending funds to nonprofits doing the work on the ground.

What organizations do you support?

So far, I’ve supported Birdability, Institute for Bird Populations, and reforestation/ocean-restoration partners. My long-term goal: expand to fund even more projects that keep skies full and birding accessible.

Is your clothing ethically sourced?

I’m committed to transparency. Everything is printed on demand using suppliers that follow fair labor standards. While I can’t control every step of the global supply chain, I actively choose partners with strong sustainability commitments, and I’m always working to do better. Where the base products are sourced is listed on each product page.

Where do your designs come from?

Every design in the shop is mine. I design each one myself, start to finish. Nothing here is licensed stock or another artist’s work.

Do you use AI art?

My designs incorporate AI-assisted illustration to varying degrees, always as part of a human-led creative process.

I use a broad range of design tools in my artistic process. Some of them incorporate AI tools within the platform (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.), and some are entirely AI-powered (Anthropic, Vectorizor.ai, Topaz Labs, etc).

For any image generation, I cap my use at 1,000 image iterations per year - the vast majority used in the brainstorming stage, not the final design. That’s the carbon equivalent of driving about 4 miles in an average car over the course of an entire year.

In other words: the footprint is tiny, the art is mine, conceived, shaped, edited, and finished by me, and the mission to help birds stays front and center.

I use AI tools responsibly, transparently, and with the same goal as everything else here: fueling conservation.

Do you take custom requests?

Sometimes! Have an idea for a bird design you’d love to see? Drop me a note! I can’t promise every species makes it onto a t-shirt, but I love hearing what birds people are obsessed with and do my best to provide.

Do you ship internationally?

I currently ship to Canada and the US. This is an itsy bitsy biz, so I don't quite have the resources to expand globally yet, but I plan to!
