William Morris-Inspired throw blankets by style

A throw blanket is the most forgiving way to bring a heritage print into a living room. It drapes over the arm of a sofa, layers across the foot of a bed, or wraps around the back of a reading chair. Our William Morris-Inspired throw blankets are drawn in the Arts and Crafts tradition. Dense botanical repeats, songbirds threaded through trailing vines, and tea-stained and jewel-toned colorways meant for real homes.

  • Damask heritage. Mirrored repeats with swallows, lovebirds, and herons in tea-stained creams and soft sage. Best for formal sitting rooms and guest rooms.
  • Botanical revival. Trailing vines and wildflowers with songbirds. Mossy greens, dusty rose, terracotta. Best for primary bedrooms and reading chairs.
  • Jewel-tone heritage. Forest green, indigo, garnet, copper. Best for moody living rooms with darker walls.
  • Grandmillennial. Heritage repeats in lighter, brighter colorways. Best for living rooms that lean traditional but want a more open palette.

How to use a heritage throw blanket

  • Sofa drape. Folded once over the arm of the sofa. Best for a living room that already has solid upholstery.
  • End-of-bed accent. Folded across the foot of the bed. Adds pattern to a quiet bedding setup without committing to a full duvet.
  • Reading chair throw. Draped over the back of a wingback or armchair. Works especially well in a library or home office.
  • Picnic and porch blanket. A heritage throw on the back of a porch swing or under a picnic basket. The performance velvet and minky substrates hold up better outdoors than cotton.
  • Gift. A throw blanket in a heritage colorway is one of the safest gifts you can pick for someone whose taste you don't fully know.

Substrates and what to expect

  • Performance velvet. Soft, durable, holds heritage colors with depth. The most popular substrate for our throw blankets. Good for daily use on a sofa.
  • Minky. Plush and cuddly. Best for bedrooms, nurseries, and reading chairs. Slightly less formal than velvet.
  • Linen cotton canvas. Lighter weight, matte finish, drapes more loosely. Best for warmer climates and seasonal use.

Throw blankets are double-sided with a clean white topstitch finish. They're printed to order and finished by Spoonflower.

Frequently asked questions

Are these genuine William Morris throw blankets?

No. These are William Morris-Inspired designs created by Better With Birds. They draw on the Arts and Crafts heritage tradition Morris made famous, but they are our own original patterns, not licensed reproductions of the Morris & Co. archive.

Who prints and ships the blankets?

Better With Birds designs the patterns. Spoonflower prints, sews, and ships every order from Durham, North Carolina. Returns and reprints go through Spoonflower.

What sizes are available?

Standard throw size is 50 by 60 inches, which is the right size for a sofa drape or end-of-bed accent. Some designs are also available in a larger 60 by 80 inch version. Check the individual product page for the current size menu.

Are the blankets double-sided?

Yes. The pattern prints on the front and a coordinated back is finished with a clean white topstitch around the edge.

How do I wash a throw blanket?

Wash cold, gentle cycle, tumble dry low or line dry. Performance velvet and minky both handle washing well. Avoid bleach and high heat.

How long does a throw blanket take to arrive?

Production typically runs 5 to 10 business days, with most US orders arriving within two to three weeks total.
